introduction:
Excited about a new bag, got home, made my first cup…
I simply said, "I don't like it!"
Don't worry — even the best coffee drinkers go through this.
But before you throw away the bag or give it to someone, try these simple methods that can save your coffee and completely change the experience.
1. Change the preparation method.
Sometimes the same coffee gives very different results from one tool to another:
✅ What did you like about the V60?
Try it with a Clever or French press.
✅ It came out light in Chemex?
Try it with espresso or moka pot.
🎯 Some crops only shine a certain way.
2. Adjust the grind and quantity.
Too fine grind = bitter taste
Too coarse grind = watery taste
🎯 Solution:
- Change the grind a notch or two.
- Try a different ratio (e.g. 1:15 or 1:16.5)
✅ Sometimes the difference is just one gram !
3. Add a "flavor companion" to it.
We don't mean sugar or milk directly...
But try:
- dark chocolate side
- dates or dried fruit
- A light piece of cake (especially with fruity coffee)
🎯 Side flavors can "balance" the intensity of coffee and change how you feel about it.
4. Mix it with Ben Thani (Blend)
If you have two types of coffee, and you buy one that is very heavy, and the other one that is very fruity…
Try mixing them 50/50 or even 70/30 depending on your taste.
✅ Many people make "homemade mixtures" that give them a balanced cup.
5. Use it in unusual recipes or preparations.
Didn't you like coffee in a cup?
Try using it in:
- Cold Brew Preparation
- Add it to desserts or tiramisu.
- Make a concentrated syrup (drip coffee) to serve with milk or ice.
🎯 Often the coffee you don't like hot is great cold!
✅ Conclusion:
There's no such thing as a "perfectly bad coffee" — there's a coffee that just isn't right for you today .
Try changing, combining, preparing differently... and sometimes you'll be surprised how a cup that was "bad" becomes one of your favorites.
